Jewelry has always held a special place in my heart. I have my grandmother’s wedding ring and love being able to slip it on and think of her. Jewelry is one of the few things that can be handed down for generations.
It was an emotional experience to breastfeed our son. The bonding was incredible. When the time came, I struggled to transition him to cow’s milk. You can read more about that here. So, to commemorate this experience, I wanted a piece of jewelry made from the breastmilk. I recently saw some pieces made with milk and was pretty impressed. Who knew they even made such a thing? I had my eye on a ring, but it was several hundred dollars! My husband and I actually decided it would be worth it and set out to order it. Well, as luck would have it, the ring only came in full sizes and I was a half size. I continued to hunt for the perfect piece…
I stumbled upon a piece on Etsy that I loved. It would be perfect! I have always wanted a fine necklace that laid right at the nape of my neck. Etsy doesn’t allow the sale of breastmilk, so I set off to order directly through the vendors website. The price was definitely more in our price range-$35. For that price, I wasn’t certain it would even come with a chain, but I was willing to risk it. I packaged and shipped off the breastmilk and waited. It wasn’t long before my piece arrived and I could not be happier with the results. It even came with a nice chain! As I mentioned, I want the piece to lay right at the nape of my neck, so I will be replacing the chain. However, it is nice enough quality that I will be using it for another charm. In addition, since this piece is going on a finer chain, I purchased a duplicate…just in case the chain breaks. I was happy to find out that the artist actually kept the leftover milk, so I didn’t have to incur the cost of shipping the milk again.
