Why we shed hunt & you should too!

Why We Shed Hunt and you should too

Shed hunting is the process of gathering antlers that were shed by the animal (moose, deer, or elk). There is an actual club for this activity-The North American Shed Hunting Club, founded in 1991.

We aren’t quite as organized.  Typically, our adventure starts out on a beautiful spring day where we want to get outside.  One of us will suggest shed hunting and we will head out for a hike.  We usually end up going out too late in the season and don’t find any sheds, but we always enjoy the experience.   If you haven’t been shed hunting, here are a few reasons why I’d recommend it:

  1. It’s a great excuse to get outside and enjoy the weather as a family

  2. Hiking through fields and brush can be great exercise

  3. You can learn a lot about animal patterns and nature on the hike

  4. You’re almost guaranteed to see some type of wildlife, even if it is just a rabbit
