What's old is new again and this certainly applies to these fabulous vintage craft books. Some may think kitsch when looking at this selection, but I say they're downright crafty. There's something sweet and nostalgic about these covers, and it makes me want to get out my glue stick and scissors. How-to crafting books are a dime a dozen and with the multitude of crafting blogs popping up each day, one can't help but feel bombarded by craft projects and ideas. Not only does Callahan bring a fresh look to old crafts from the s and s, but she provides a historical insight into the crafting world and profiles some of the most influential women in crafting during this era.

It is visually pleasing and even includes quite a bit of ephemera for the reader to use must be photocopied and not cut because it is two-sided, but that's OK.

My problem was that, with the exception of the intro where the reader is told to 'go to flea markets - and the one in Paris is great' none of the projects had any sourcing guidelines at all. I also found the instructions were quite bland - meaning they were numbered and typed without any step-by-step photographs - only pictures of the completed projects. Even the descriptions often left you wanting a little more.

Overall - great book as a jumping off point for your imagination; I just wished she shared more techniques rather than a bevy of finished projects. Sure, the projects are pretty but nothing we haven't seen before. Author does NOT go into details with the projects and I honestly was left wondering, "Does she really want people making this stuff? Or is she just trying to get her name out there?

It's not worth buying at full price, however. I recommend Pretty Little Things by Sally Jean Alexander instead, and also browsing artful blogging blogs and tutorials! Those are better than this book! I couldn't be happier with this book!

The projects within are definately for vintage lovers. Neat ways to use vintage paper ephemera, easy, clear instructions and supply list, with lots of tips. The pics are great too. I created several of the composition notebooks, covered with sheet music, and old pages from children's books, and they sold like hotcakes. Be prepared to be inspired and get creating!

Every page very beautiful. Will use this a lot, that are easy to do, nothing difficult. Will inspire you on how to use up your left over scraps too.

Anna Corba's exquisite book about discovering the art and craft of paper collage from the point of view, primarily, of vintage paper found and repurposed by way of French flea markets, brocantes, etc.

It has such a solid sensibility of intuitive composition and trust without any need to over work or over do or clutter a piece of craft of a work moving toward art. She is one of the early treasures in this realm. An artist, a yoga instructor, author and terrific workshop guide. One person found this helpful. The items in this book are not really practical This is the book that introduced me to collage. Anna Corba's soft, beautiful colors and doable projects continue to inspire me years after discovering the book.

I recently gifted this book to a friend who expressed interest in paper crafts. Anna's vintage look is so appealing. I would recommend this book and all her other ones as sources of inspiration and a treasure troves of images and beautiful projects.

Great addition to my journaling stach. See all reviews from the United States. Top international reviews. Great ideas. Good ethos of upcycling paper to make stylish individual paper products. Anna Corba is a lovely teacher too, I was lucky enough to share one workshops via French General. Thank you for your feedback. Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again. This charming book is a pot pourri of vintage craft ideas.

Beautifully illustrated to evoke memories and tempt the reader to try out some of the projects whether a beginner or experienced. Not a specific 'how to do' book but with more general but clear instructions and easy to find -often free or scrap- materials and supplies both in US and UK. Although a vintage theme book many of the ideas could be adapted for modern design.

A nice clip art section is included. Not just paper crafts but a variety of projects for decorative and practical uses in the home or for gifts. Disappointed as I thought that there would be more information and directions that I could utilize, never having done any scrapbooking, etc. You've read the top international reviews. Loraine loves arts and crafts and used to volunteer at an elementary art class. She loves sharing fun and easy craft tutorials. When I think of vintage style crafts, I think of items that were made in the styles of the s and s. To folks younger than I, vintage could mean styles of the s, s or even the s. It really depends on what you might call old-fashioned styles, and of course, what seems old-fashioned to me most probably seems ancient to you. To me, vintage crafts incorporate buttons, laces, beads or old photos or images.
